Worked Example: ₹10,00,000 Loan at 9.5% p.a. for 60 Months (5 Years)
A borrower takes a ₹10 Lakh auto/personal loan at 9.5% annual reducing-balance interest for 60 months with a 1% processing fee.
- Calculate (1 + r)^60 = (1.0079167)^60 = 1.605009.
- Compute EMI = 10,00,000 × 0.0079167 × 1.605009 ÷ (1.605009 − 1) = ₹21,001.86/month.
- Total repayment = ₹21,001.86 × 60 = ₹12,60,111.60 (Total interest = ₹2,60,111.60).
Result: Monthly EMI is ₹21,001.86 and total interest over 5 years is ₹2,60,111.60.

Loan & EMI Calculator: inputs, method, and how to read the result
Compute monthly EMI, total interest share, processing fee impact, and yearly repayment schedule in ₹ INR (Lakhs/Crores) or $ USD.
Choose inputs for the case you are checking
The defaults are illustrative. Replace them with values for your case and keep the units shown beside each field.
- Display Currency: Amounts are treated in the selected currency; no foreign-exchange conversion is applied.
- Loan Principal Amount: Total amount borrowed from the bank or NBFC.
- Annual Interest Rate: Reducing-balance nominal annual rate (0% zero-interest supported).
- Loan Tenure (Months): Total monthly installments (up to 50 years; e.g., 300 months = 25 years).
What the calculation includes
With the default values shown, Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) is USD 525.05. The calculation follows Reducing-Balance Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) Formula; the formula and variable definitions above show how the inputs combine.
One-input check: With the other defaults held constant, changing Loan Principal Amount from 25,000 $ / ₹ to 27,500 $ / ₹ changes Equated Monthly Installment (EMI) from USD 525.05 to USD 577.55. This is a comparison inside the calculator's stated model, not a prediction.
Where to use caution
- Uses standard monthly reducing-balance compounding mandated for retail loans.
